Tom Curtain is a multi-talented entertainer, musician, horseman, and entrepreneur who embodies the authentic spirit of the Australian outback. Living and working in the Northern Territory, Tom has successfully bridged the worlds of country music and agri-tourism, carving out a unique career that celebrates life on the land.
Tom discovered his passion for songwriting while working in the stock camp of Mt Sanford Station, 500kms south of Katherine. What began as fun around the campfire led to the release of his award-winning debut album, Smack Bang, in 2004. He spent his early years splitting his time between touring with Australian country greats like Sara Storer and The Sunny Cowgirls, and breaking horses throughout the NT and Queensland.
In 2011, the Live Beef Export Ban devastated the local industry, forcing Tom to reinvent his horse-training business. The result was the launch of the Katherine Outback Experience (KOE) in 2013. This award-winning tourist venture—which won Gold at the 2021 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards—combines real horse-starting and working dog demonstrations with live music and bush tales. The team operates in Katherine from April to October and tours the show nationally during the summer months.
After a decade focusing on business and family, Tom made a triumphant return to music in 2017 with his third album, Territory Time, which debuted at No. 1 on the Australian iTunes Country Music Chart. His duet with Luke O’Shea, "Never Never Land," won two Golden Guitars at the 2018 Tamworth Country Music Awards. He has since released the successful albums We’re Still Here (2019) and Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us (2022), continuing to produce hit singles like "Why We Live Out Here" and cementing his status as one of Australia’s leading independent country artists.
