Matthew Mallardi is a dynamic drummer and didgeridoo player currently based in Brisbane, Queensland. Born on a North Queensland farm, his musical foundation was built on family road trips soundtracked by Australian rock legends like INXS, AC/DC, and Goanna—a heritage that continues to shape his playing today.
Matthew began his drumming journey at age 16, quickly becoming a fixture in Townsville’s heavy music scene. His versatility saw him perform across genres ranging from folk-pop to progressive rock and metal, including a stint in the drum line for the NRL. Seeking to further his craft, Matthew relocated to Brisbane to enroll at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, where he is currently navigating his third year of study.
Constantly evolving, Matthew expanded his repertoire by picking up the didgeridoo, inspired by the sounds of Xavier Rudd. He now utilizes a unique hybrid setup that fuses the didgeridoo with the drum kit, creating a distinctive and creative sonic experience.
In 2023, Matthew immersed himself in the country music world, touring as the backing drummer for Mick Lindsay. He has since graced stages at major festivals, including the prestigious Gympie Music Muster, and performed with acts like Golden Sunbird Jarrad Wrigley and Riley Young. Currently, he plays a pivotal role in the band for emerging country sensation Wade Forster, traveling across the country and the world to deliver high-energy performances.
Matthew is a proud artist for Red Cymbals, drawn to the Australian company for their craftsmanship and their commitment to mental health awareness. He views his musicianship as a constant pursuit of growth, driven by a desire to inspire fellow musicians and contribute to the community.
